I began my nonprofit career* in 1990, charged with the task of creating "how to" guides for the rapidly growing Colorado Nonprofit Association. From hot topics like The Audit Process to Hiring and Firing within the Law, I discovered I enjoyed working with lawyers, CPAs, and medical professionals to make complex topics understandable for lay readers.
In my six years with the state association, I answered the “hotline” for hundreds of nonprofit organizations, edited the bi-monthly newsletter, Nonprofit Colorado, and produced publications on fund raising, legal and tax issues, accounting, ethics, and the media. In 1996, I went to work for my colleague, Richard Male, in his national publishing and consulting firm. I was the editor for five major grant guides for New York, New Jersey, California, and Ohio.
I’ve run my own consulting business since 2000, working with local and national nonprofits to tell their stories through fund raising, grant writing, publications, and websites.
*Long ago, in another country, I worked as a professional actress with the BBC and other television companies, and in radio, theater, film and commercials.
